The local Marshall’s had an entire shelf of these. They certainly weren’t old enough to be from the last time the Bengals were AFC North champions.
If they had said 2019 anywhere on them I might have bought one.

Should I buy one and use it as a cigar ashtray in his honor?

Depends on if you want to see cancer on the field or in your lungs.

This has to be some kind of joke the guy at the New Era factory pulled. He knew what he was doing.

And they had a shelf with four stacks of them. I thought I had read somewhere that these items that had already been made were typically donated to third world countries to prevent their sale in the US.
Maybe one box was put on the wrong stack and shipped or there was a paperwork mistake at the loading dock.

Maybe he could sign them and stuff them in the gift bags at the next event for his foundation.

Statistically speaking, eventually they will be correct. Probably not in my lifetime, but eventually.

TJ Maxx and Marshalls seem to get this stuff a lot. We got a ton of Broncos Super Bowl championship crap after 2014. Oops.

I have heard of stuff like this being made when there was a possibility of them being needed. Stores get merch for both teams that go to the Super Bowl so that they have stuff to sell the day after. It makes sense to have potential outcomes ready. My friend actually managed to snag a 2007 Patriots 19-0 T-shirt before they were all disposed of.
In no universe were the Bengals going to be AFC North Champs. They went 2-14 for crying out loud. There was no reason for this to have ever been made.

Rules may differ from vendor to vendor but when I was in retail the company I worked for had pretty strict guidelines to prevent this from happening.
The delivery had to be signed off for by the manager, it would be locked in the cash room and was supposed to be checked regularly to make sure no one had opened anything, and the manager was responsible for making sure the right boxes made it to the sales floor when it was ready to sell.
The losing teams merchandise had to be inventoried before it was sent back, and the boxes were sealed with special tamper resistant tape before being shipped.
I understand at Marshall’s the policy is if it shows up shove it on the shelf even if it’s wrong or missing parts. I’m just curious where the breakdown was that it even made it to them.

I know, but there’s no way these had bounced around a warehouse or retail shelf for 4 years. They had close to 40 and all in perfect shape.

I forget the exact story on how they got it but I believe they found it on a discount rack a day or two after the loss.

I have no doubt that Bengals gear sat around unsold for four years. Marshals probably got them for free.
